About the Fund

This scholarship program was established by Titonian Wallace Sr.

the inaugural Chair and Founding Member of Washington County Chamber of Commerce’s Black Advisory Business Council, to empower Black graduating seniors from Hillsboro High Schools. It facilitates their pursuit of higher education or vocational/trade programs,
offering support for studies at non-profit community colleges (associate degrees), 4-year colleges/universities (bachelor’s degrees), or accredited vocational/trade schools. The Black Advisory Business Council strongly believes in the value of students embracing these educational paths, fostering a deeper appreciation for self-investment, increasing earning potential, and creating a lasting family legacy.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • At least 1 month of paid work experience
  • Preference for first-generation college attendees

Fund Goal

  • Attain $25,000 within 2 years for full scholarship funding
  • Establish a permanent endowment status to sustain scholarships indefinitely
  • Continue fundraising efforts to support ongoing scholarships long term and raise $250,000

2024 Inaugural BABC Scholarship Award Recipients- $2000 each

Janya Anderson

Janya Anderson scholarship recipient.

Janya Anderson, a 2024 Hillsboro High School graduate, was awarded the Black Advisory Business Council Scholarship as part of the fund’s inaugural year. She is now attending Spelman College, majoring in Biochemistry.

Janya’s academic excellence and dedication stood out among many strong applicants. Her passion for science and commitment to leadership represent exactly what the BABC Scholarship Fund is meant to support.

We were proud to have Janya speak at the 2024 Washington County Juneteenth Celebration, where she shared her gratitude and excitement for her next chapter.

“The scholarship committee and I were highly impressed with each applicant this year. Janya really stood out to us and exemplified all the qualities of excellence the Black Advisory Business Council Scholarship Award represents,” said Titonian Wallace Sr.

Jordan Johnson

Jordan Johnson, one of the first year recipients of the Black Advisory Business Council Scholarship.

Jordan Johnson, a 2024 Century High School graduate, was selected as one of the first Black Advisory Business Council Scholarship recipients. He is now attending Pacific University, majoring in Kinesiology on a Pre-Med track.

Jordan’s resilience and focus, especially in overcoming physical challenges, reflect the qualities the BABC Scholarship Fund was created to support.

“The BABC made this process go as smoothly as possible, and I am forever grateful for the empathy and compassion they continue to show me,” Jordan shared.

“The scholarship committee and I were highly impressed with Jordan’s perseverance and commitment to his education. He truly embodies the qualities of excellence the Black Advisory Business Council Scholarship Award represents,” said Titonian Wallace Sr.

Jordan’s journey is a true example of determination and leadership, showing the lasting impact of community investment in education.
